Heat Pump Dryer Running Cost Calculator
Heat-pump tumble dryers use significantly less energy than conventional condenser or vented dryers. Typical power ratings are 800–1,200 W compared with 2,000–3,000 W for standard machines. If your dryer shows a kWh-per-cycle figure on its energy label, that is a more reliable starting point than rated wattage alone.
Energy per session2.500 kWh
Cost per session£0.66
Weekly£2.63
Monthly estimate£11.41
Annual estimate£136.86
Formula: watts ÷ 1,000 × hours × electricity rate. This is an estimate; cycling appliances may draw less than their full rated power for part of the session.
What the result means
- Heat-pump dryers run longer cycles at lower temperatures, so rated wattage can understate time but overstate instantaneous power.
- Energy-label kWh-per-cycle data is the most accurate input when available.
- Cycle duration varies by load size, fabric type and selected programme.
- The calculation covers electricity use only and excludes water disposal and maintenance.
